Lived Experience Consultant - Homelessness
Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a Lived Experience Consultant to be part of the Ending Rough Sleeping Collaboration Byron Shire. Your lived experience of homelessness and the challenges that come with it will be valued and used in a strengths-based way to help shape better support services and drive social change.
As an equal member of the Local Leaders Group, you will contribute to setting the strategic direction for ending rough sleeping in Byron Shire. You will also have opportunities to be involved in community education, media, events, and training-only if you choose to.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Sharing your lived experience where relevant to challenge myths and improve understanding.
- Attending and participating in monthly 90-minute Local Leaders Group meetings.
- Engaging in pre-brief and debrief meetings.
- Providing insight and feedback to improve housing and homelessness services
- Collaborating with the Byron Shire Council's Backbone Team to shape project outcomes.
- Optionally, participating in events, media, or training sessions.
Who We're Looking For:
- Someone with lived or living experience of homelessness in the Byron Shire.
- A person comfortable sharing their experience in a strengths-focused way.
- Someone with a genuine interest in improving local services.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Reliability and a willingness to participate in meetings.
- No formal qualifications needed-just your lived experience and willingness to contribute.
Why Join Us?
- Your voice will directly influence policies and services for those experiencing homelessness.
- Work with a supportive and understanding team who value your perspective.
- Flexible commitment: 2.5-5 hours per month.
- Opportunity to make a real difference in the community.
We encourage people with lived experience of homelessness to apply, regardless of their writing, technology skills, or level of personal care. We understand these challenges and are here to support you every step of the way. Your experience and perspective are what matter most, and we're committed to providing the assistance you need to succeed.
*We acknowledge that the term homelessness can be a triggering term for some and that not all people will use this term to describe their experience.
