Looking for a hands-on role in the great outdoors? Ballina Shire Council is hiring for two key positions in their maintenance teams. Whether you're experienced in roadside vegetation management or skilled in open space maintenance, we have a role for you!

Maintenance Officer - Roadside Vegetation Management

Hours: 6:30 am - 3:40 pm, 9-day fortnight
Engagement Period: Approx. 8-12 weeks (chance to be extended after)

Key Responsibilities:

• Labouring and chemical spraying as part of roadside vegetation management programs
• Ensuring safe and effective maintenance of vegetation

What You Need:

✅ Alignment with Council's values - Creative, Accessible, Respect, Energetic, Safe
✅ Ability and willingness to perform physical labour
✅ Chemical Application ticket (or willingness to work with/apply chemicals)
✅ Driver's licence
✅ White Card

Desirable:

✔ Experience in vegetation management, including trimming and spray truck operation
✔ Chainsaw Level 1 ticket
✔ MR licence
✔ Traffic Controller ticket

Plant Operator - Open Spaces & Reserves

Hours: 6:30 am - 3:40 pm, 9-day fortnight
Engagement Period: Approx. 2-3 months

Key Responsibilities:

• Operating a zero-turn mower or tractor slasher
• Performing horticulture labouring duties to maintain open spaces

What You Need:

✅ Zero-turn mowing OR tractor slasher experience in a work environment
✅ Class C driver's licence

Highly Desirable:

✔ MR truck licence

Desirable:

✔ Horticulture trade qualification
✔ Chemical qualifications
✔ Traffic Controller ticket
✔ Implement Traffic Control Plans ticket
