The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Town Planner with 2-5 years' experience to join a dynamic and family friendly team, assessing a wide variety of development applications; unlike some other places, here you won't be pigeon-holed. You'll have the opportunity to work directly with clients, and you'll need to balance environmental and community concerns.

On top of a competitive base salary, the role offers a 9-day fortnight, a fitness passport, and the potential for a hybrid wfo/wfh split.

The Role

The purpose of the role is to undertake efficient and effective assessment of development applications to meet statutory and community needs.This will involve:

  • Providing professional and timely advice to applicants and Council staff regarding development related applications, construction matters, development and planning legislation and associated matters in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Interpreting and applying technical concepts and practices to resolve formal complaints, problems and explain policy.
  • Promote a positive image for Council through efficient and effective responses to all public enquiries.
  • Assess and determine development applications and carry out associated regulatory functions according to relevant statutes, legislation and Council policies and procedures.
  • Undertake inspections of applications to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate complaints and non-compliance in an impartial manner and promptly respond to and manage identified problems.
  • Respond to correspondence in accordance with Council's customer service and communication guidelines.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports to Council and relevant governing bodies on issues as they relate to this position.
  • Prepare material for use by the public that clearly and succinctly explains Council policies.
  • Contribute to the development of Council policies that reflect the culture, values and objectives of the organisation.
  • Ensure works are undertaken within specified budgets, and in compliance with designated resource allocation.

About You

With 2-5 years' planning experience, including some gained working in NSW (and preferably within a Council), you will have:

  • a tertiary qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • demonstrated experience in development assessment and statutory planning
  • excellent communication skills (both oral and written), and strong interpersonal, customer service and presentation skills
  • a current class C driving license

Knowledge and understanding of the Local Government Act and the Environmental Planning and Assessment act is highly regarded, as is previous local government experience, and previous experience working in a customer service capacity.
